Irregular periods

Many women complain that they are having irregular periods.

Before judging periods to be irregular, the criteria of normal periods should be known.
They are:
-Generally cycle length between 21 days to 35 days.
If a woman is having regular menstrual cycles with 45 days duration, that is normal for her.
-Menstrual flow for 3 to 7 days.
Usually a woman can loose around 80ml of blood in one menstrual cycle.

If any deviations from above criteria occur those can be considered as irregular periods.
The usual causes of irregularity are:
-Hormonal imbalance due to alterations in diet, changes in exercise schedule, changes in weight, stress and stain etc.
-Poly cystic ovary disease
-Thyroid hormonal abnormalities
-Abnormalities in prolactin levels
-Recent illness or usage of medicines
-General conditions like anemia, diabetes etc.
